Ducks in Distress report for 2009 Market
I went solo this time. 8.2 miles in 1:57. Route: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3364444
I tried to decide between going southeast and going northwest. Then I realized that the course area was small enough that I needed to do both. I ended up getting everything except the two on Capitol Hill, #33 (was kind of out of the way), and a few in/near the Market.
I really enjoyed:
-- the tiny dragonesque spigot at #37
-- passing through Kobe Terrace going from #56 to #41. I had never seen that park before.
-- the tiny black mouse on the clock at #54
I had enough time at the end to get #15 (Metsker Maps), but was discouraged about not being able to find #24 (Market Heritage Museum) and tired of the crowds at the Market, so I went to the finish with 3 minutes to spare.
A lot of people asked me what we (presumably me plus all the other Street Scramblers they saw) were doing.
I was a little embarrassed to accept 1st place in the Women's category. Although living with Eric doesn't get me any preview of the checkpoints (Eric is very discreet!), I think I have a wee advantage as Street Scramble co-creator -- I know the design philosophy inside out. That said, I do well in urban orienteering events designed by other people, too, so I guess I'm just good at it.
In one month I turn 50 and will be in Veteran Women's. Woo hoo!
Terry
